How to Stay Motivated

Let's be honest, when you have someone to keep you motivated, it helps to stay on track and stay focused on the goals ahead. This can be one person or an entire community of women who share the same goals as yourself!

But, if you don't have a gym buddy or someone to hold you accountable, look in the mirror! Since that really is the person who really matters.  What we fail to realize is that there's actually a formula to motivation. It goes like this... VALUE x EXPECTANCY = MOTIVATION.

You see, when it comes to achieving your goals, motivation isn’t always enough. In order to work towards your goals, motivation needs to be high, and your goals need to be a priority. Here are some things to think about when understanding motivation.

THE GREATER THE REWARD, THE MORE MOTIVATED YOU ARE!

Whether you want to feel good in your own body, the numbers you want to see on the scale or just your overall happiness, how you define the value, and the likelihood of success is key to determining the extent of your motivation. For example, if your value for something is high, but your expectations for success is low, you won’t be highly motivated to achieve that goal. This also works the opposite. If your expectancy to achieve something is high, but you don’t value the goal, then you won’t be motivated to get it done.

PERCEIVED OR RELATIVE VALUE

The word “value” means how important something is to you. Everything has a value. It’s not always monetary. It could be a family heirloom. The value you place on something depends on many things including, experience, preferences, cultural background, and many more.  We all value things differently.  Just because something is the same price, it may be worth more or less to two different people.

BELIEVE YOU CAN ACHIEVE!

You need to believe YOU can achieve it! Yes, you heard me right! You might value your goal or outcome more than anything but if you don’t believe you can actually achieve the goal, you won’t be very motivated to start or keep going.

What is your level of confidence for success?

Have you ever stopped a workout because you didn’t think you could keep going or finish? When workouts get challenging, we start losing confidence in our ability to succeed. Expectancy is how confident you are that you can succeed at something. The more confident you are that you can achieve something, the more motivated you feel to do so.

GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE!

When you’re not eating the right balance of foods or you’re skipping workouts, you aren’t actually giving yourself a chance to get the best results possible.

So do yourself a favor, commit to your goals and remember, they need to be important to you, and you need to believe you can succeed!
